Windows Vista - Configuring for Dial-In Access
Follow the instructions below to connect to the modem pool with Windows Vista.
Setting up your connection
- Click the Start
menu.
- Then select Control Panel | Network and Internet | Network and Sharing Center.
- Click on Set up a connection or network.
- You will be asked to choose a connection option. Click on Set up a dial-up connection.
- A list of modems will appear. Choose the modem you want to connect with. If no modems appear, you either do not have a modem on your computer or your modem is not installed properly. See Windows Vista - Troubleshooting Hardware Issues with Device Manager.
- You will be asked to type in the information for your ISP. Type in the following information in the appropriate fields:
- Dial-up phone number: 661-0326. If you need to enter any dialing rules, enter them before the phone number, separated by a comma (e.g. 9, 661-0326).
- User name: Enter your NetID (e.g. bbadger)
- Password: Enter the password associated with your NetID. If you do not want to enter the password every time you connect, place a check in the box next to "Remember this password."
- Connection name: Enter a name you will remember it by (e.g. UW Modem Pool).
- Click Connect. Your computer should now connect to the UW modem pool.
- Once successfully connected, click on Browse the Internet now. Your default browser will launch.
- To connect in the future, go to Start | Connect to. Your list of connections will show up. Choose the UW modem pool connections and click Connect.
- If you using the 'Classic Start Menu,' you will not see Connect to in the Start Menu. If this is the case, select Start | Settings | Network Connections. Your new connection will be in the window that pops up.
